River Gandaki at Himalayan Ranges is the house of millions and millions
of Shaligram Shilas from the time immemorial. As per Skanda Purana
the water at Gandaki river is equivalent to "Amrit" or
"Nector" that exist on the Earth because the River Gandaki
has pious water that has bathed millions of Shaligram Shilas. The

consumed twice a day once in the morning after the puja and once
in the evening at any time convenient. It is said that small quantity
of water if added to the normal water that water also becomes the
Gandaki water and has the same divine effects as the pure River
Gandaki water. So small quatity of water from Gandaki river may
be added with the Ganga Jal along with the normal water of the house
and same can be consumed as mentioned above.
THE LEGEND OF WATER FROM GANDAKI RIVER
The River Gandaki is flowing from upper Himalaya mountain RANGES
and in her 'Garbha' millions and millions of Shaligrams have lived
from the time immemorial. The medicinal effects of the water from
the Gandaki river are immense and need no emphasis as a lot has
been said about the good effect of Shilagram Shila water on our
body in our mythological texts. Not only that the water is good
for stomach problems, ulcers, thyroid, blood pressure, kidney problems,
gall bladder and many more but the water has such powerful qualities
that it purifies of the whole body spiritually and cleanse our minds
eternally ( as if our souls are taking bath with this pious water
and getting purified), and its consumption definitely increases
the positive Karmas as mentioned in few of Shlokas below. If a small
quantity of water from Gandaki river is consumed every day, the
devotee is blessed with longitivity, very good health, spiritual
and transcendental growth. This water is also used by the devotees
who worship Shaligrams daily and the legend of this water is equals
the Ganga Jal in all the Religious Pujas, Abhishek and Yajnas. The
water from Gandaki river commands a high value in Indian culture.
The purity and good effects of any religious ceremony is enhanced
when this water is used.

DESCRIBING THE MERITS OF DRINKING RIVER GANDAKI WATER
As per Purana Sangraha when a dying person is made to sip a
little of the water from Gandaki river or in which the Salagrama-stone
is bathed, he will be freed from all sins, and will reach the
heavenly abode of Vishnu. And death itself when it occurs in
the presence of a Salagrama-stone will pave the way for Vishnu’s
realm, for Vishnu is present in that stone (Purana-samgraha).
The rites of expiation of sins (prayaschitta) becomes effective
more by drinking the Gandaki water or the water in which Shaligram
stones are washed than by gifts or fasting or by observances
of various kinds. In times of solar or lunar eclipse, whatever
ritual is undertaken becomes all the more effective when done
in front of a Salagrama-stone and Gandaki water so says Hemadri.
Even the worst criminal who has committed countless sins will
instantaneously get purified by sipping the Gandaki water or
the water in which has been bathed/washed Salagrama Shilas.

As per Padma Purana any person if he has even taken one drop of
water which has bathed or washed Salagram Shila will not have to
suck a mother’s breast again in the furure. He will attain
Moksha.

As per Padma Puran the water which has bathed or washed Shalagram
Shila includes the water from the Ganga, Godavari, Reva and other
liberating rivers. If this bath water from the Shalagram Shila
is available, then there is no need for thousands of other places
of piligrimage. The Gandaki water or Shaligram water itself is
a pilgrimage of the most higest order.

Any persopn who has drank the water which has bathed Shalagram

panchagavya.

Lord Shiva is telling to His son Skanda, that any person who has
seen Shalagram Shila, paid obeisances to Him, bathed the Shila,
drank this water and worshipped Him, has achieved the results
of performing ten million sacrifices and giving ten million cows
in charity.
