Bhu is the Hindi word for Earth. She represents the realm of mind and knowledge, or Space. Devi Bhuvaneswari represents how everyone of us interacts with the environment. The mahabhutas (the fundamental physical components) and Prakriti are used to identify her (nature or the physical world). Similar to Goddess Saraswati, Bhuvaneswari Devi grants knowledge to those who worship Her. She is in charge of the planet Moon in astrology and is focused on the mind. According to the legend of Dhumavati, she fed her hunger by ingesting her husband, Lord Shiva.
