PARAD LINGA

A person is considered to be endowed with rewards of good karma if he owns a Shivalinga of Parad (Mercury). It is an extremely auspicious and precious possession and needs to be taken good care of and valued. The worship should also be done with utmost care. Firstly, a bowl of clean water, another bowl of pure milk and another bowl of rose water should be prepared. On days of certain occasions or on weekly days like Monday or Thursday, it is mandatory to take a bath and light up the oil lamp. After washing the Linga with clean water and making sure that all the dirt and dust is removed, preparation should be done for the Aradhana by lighting up incense sticks.

Secondly, we should initially wash the linga with a bowl of clean water while continuously chanting “Om Namah Shiavaay” or reciting the ‘Maha Mrityunjay Manta’. After a bath with clean water and being satisfied that it is cleaned properly one should wipe it with a soft tissue. Thirdly, this should be followed by the procedure of washing with milk and then with rose water. Then with all devotion and emotion, put it in the place of worship, apply sandal paste (vibuthi) and then saffron on it. Then, worship with incense sticks. Shower flowers and tulsi in it to complete your Aradhana.
