History of Lord Krishna
According to Krishna Charitas, Lord Krishna is born to Devaki and her husband, Vasudeva of the Yadava clan in Mathura, currently Uttar Pradesh. He grows up with Nand baba and his wife Yashoda along with his siblings Balram and Subhadra. When the mother earth is burdened by the evil activities of Kansa (brother of Devaki) and other demons, she goes to Lord Brahma along with other gods. They chanted to the Purusha Sukta to summon God Vishnu. Lord Vishnu assured the mother earth and other gods that he would himself take birth along with his part Shesha in Yadus clan.According to the Puranic legends, at Devaki Wedding, the fortune-teller told Kansa that a child of Devaki will kill him. Therefore he arranges to kill all the children of Devaki and Vasudev. When Lord Krishna is born, Vasudeva secretly carries him away across the Yamuna and exchanges him to the infant (baby girl) of Nand Baba and Yashoda. When Kansa comes to kill the 8th child of his sister Devaki, the exchanged baby appears as the goddess Durga (a Hindu goddess) and warns him that his death has arrived in his kingdom and then disappears.
Krishna is listed in the Vishnu Sahasranama as the 57th name of Lord Vishnu. The life of Lord Krishna is generally titled as Krishna Leela. It is mentioned in many Hindu philosophical, theological and mythological texts that he is a central character in the Mahabharata, the Bhagavata Purana and the Bhagavad Gita. Krishna is portrayed in various perspectives such as a god-child, a prankster, a divine hero, a model lover and as the universal supreme being.
All About Lord Krishna
In childhood, Krishna is described as a cow herder, a mischievous boy who pranks Gopis, a Makhan chor and a protector. In his childhood, Krishna steals the hearts of the people of both Vrindavana & Gokul. Often the Bal Gopal stole the Makhan (butter) of Gopis and distributed it among all his Bal Sakha (friends). Therefore he was named as Makhanchor (Butter thief). Maa Yashoda and Nand Baba love Krishna or Bal Gopal a lot. His best friend and brother Balram and sister Subhadra also love him.It is mentioned that once Krishna lifted the Govardhan hill to protect the people of Vrindavan from flood and devastation. Legends describe Krishna as an enchanter and a playful lover of the Gopis of Vrindavan, especially Radha. There are various famous love stories of Krishna & Radha and Krishna & Gopis known as Ras Lila. Whenever Krishna plays his flute Radha/ Radhika along with the Gopis come immediately, from whatever they were doing, to the banks of the Yamuna River. They join him in singing and dancing and even those who could not physically be there they can also join Krishna through meditation. Lord Krishna is the spiritual essence and the love-eternal in existence.
It is mentioned that Krishna returned to Mathura and killed his maternal uncle Kansa after quarrelling several attempts with him. After then he became a leading prince and after then became king of Dwarka and known as Dwarkadhees. Thereafter Pandavas rise and he became friends of Arjuna and other Pandavas (princes of Kuru Kingdom). He plays a vital role in Mahabharata. According to Bhagavata Purana, there are eight wives of Krishna that appear in sequence i.e. Rukmini, Satyabhama, Jambavati, Kalindi, Mitravinda, Nagnajiti (also called Satya), Bhadra and Lakshmana (also called Madra). According to Indian texts, Mahabharat leads to the death of all the 100 sons of Gandhari. After that once while Lord Krishna was resting, mistaking the sleeping Krishna for a deer, Jara (a hunter) shoots an arrow that injures him. Then Lord Krishna forgives Jara and dies.
