Garud Puran

The Garuda Purana is one of the 18 Mahapurans in Hinduism. It consists the instructions by Lord Maha Vishnu given to Sri Garuda (The King of Birds and a Vahana of Lord Vishnu). In this ancient text, Lord Vishnu discloses the meaning of Life, proper funeral rites, details of life after death and reincarnation of the departed soul. According to Garud Puran, proper funeral rites must be performed at the time of Antim Sanskar (Antyesti) of the deceased. It is a Vaishnava Purana which consists of 19000 Shlokas.
