Importance of Ashwamedha Yagya
The Ashvamedha Yagya (अश्वमेध यज्ञ) is a horse sacrifice ritual followed by the Srauta tradition of Vedic religion. This ritual has been used by the ancient Indian kings to prove their imperial sovereignty where a horse accompanied by the warriors of a king would be released to wander for a period of one year. In the territory traversed by the horse, no rival could dispute the authority of the king by challenging the warriors accompanying it.After one year, if no one can kill or capture the horse it would be guided back to the capital of King. After this the horse becomes the supreme or king of all horses in the stable, and the king would be declared as an undisputed sovereign. However in our puja the silver horse would be donated to the Chief Priest.
